In December 2017, Wasa Student Village (Wasa) in Amsterdam Sloterdijk, opposite the Orly Centre, was opened after a record building time of twenty weeks. Porten, together with Camelot Europe and Jan Snel in close collaboration with the City of Amsterdam made this project possible. Wasa and Camelot signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Hogeschool (university of applied sciences) of Amsterdam (HvA). Both UvA and HvA have been important supporters as well.
Wasa consists of 358 student houses and a catering establishment operated by the Amsterdam-based Koffie Academie. The mixture of Dutch and international students, and asylum permit holders with a student profile is a promising pioneer venture of mixed cultures.
The design has been developed in collaboration with the City of Amsterdam, Jan Snel, and the Studio Selba architectural firm. The warm wooden architecture creates a pleasant and friendly atmosphere in the previously impersonal urban office area of Amsterdam Sloterdijk.
