Zaanstad concluded the agreement for the Houthavenkade with Porten Development B.V.
The business park on the Houthavenkade in Zaandam is making way for a sustainable residential area with 710 homes, 40 owner-occupied and 670 rental properties, 30% of which are social and 20% are mid-rental (sales of the homes will start in a few years’ time). It will be the connecting link between the Harbor Neighbourhood, The Island and the Russian Neighbourhood and forms a beautiful new entrance to the centre of Zaandam.
The design for the new neighbourhood was created by architect Van Aken CAE and is inspired by the port history and the interaction with the water. There will be a port for passers-by, adjacent to the catering industry and furnished with stairs, making it a nice place to sit. In addition, there will be a water square in the district as a meeting place and an extra bridge to the Russian Neighbourhood.
There will be communal green roof gardens between the houses. The district is within walking distance of the station and is largely car-free. Residents park under the buildings or use one of the shared cars.
